Essays, ca. 1774-ca. 1785.

Three ms. essays on religious liberty. The first, signed by Scripturates, was addressed to the Massachusetts delegates to the Continental Congress of May 10, 1775, reminding them of the oppressions suffered by Baptists and of promises of religious liberty. The second, addressed to "Mr. Chair-man" and written during the Revolution, carries a similar message. The third, entitled "Remarks on some passages in Bath Kol," is a response to an unidentified publication that apparently promoted infant baptism and attacked Baptists, the followers of Robert Sandeman, and other sects, as heretics.
